FIRST SEMI FINALS CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019 INDIA VS NEW ZEALAND

FIRST SEMI FINAL  ICC World  CUP 2019

New Zealand beat India By 18 Runs In The First Semi Final

New Zealand reached their second World Cup final with a stunning 18-run win over shell-shocked India in first semi final at Old Trafford.

Batting first, New Zealand made 239 runs for loss of 8 wickets in allotted 50 overs.

Ross Taylor, remained top scorer with 74 after Williamson had made a masterly 67 in awkward conditions.

New Zealand got off to a shaky start losing Martin Guptill early. Fifth single figure score of this tournament when he fended at a rising Bumrah ball and was caught by Kohli at second slip.

New Zealand struggled from then on, going more than 13 overs without a boundary.

Henry Nicholls and Williamson then steadied the innings. Nicholls scored 28 and shared a 68-run stand with skipper Williamson before being removed by Ravindra Jadeja.

Williamson then slammed his half-century and took the score past 100. He shared a 65-run stand with Ross Taylor for the third wicket but was removed by Yuzvendra Chahal.

Taylor then lifted New Zealand and took the score past 200 with his half-century.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished with 3 for 43.

In reply, India bowled out for 221 runs in 49.3 overs.

India lost key batsmen Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rahul for just one run each as they slumped to five for three and were 24 for four when Dinesh Karthik was out for six.

The ongoing pressure exerted by the black caps told again in the 23rd over when Rishabh pant holed out for 32 when he was caught at deep midwicket by Colin de Grandhomme following a lofted sweep off Santner.

India suffered another setback when Pandya, slogging across the line, Skyed Santner to New Zealand captain Kane Williamson at midwicket.

Then Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja were sharing an excellent partnership for the seventh wicket.

Jadeja in particular was superb but, with 37 runs needed from the final 18 balls, Jadeja hit Trent Boult high into the air and to black caps captain Kane Williamson to fall for 77.

Dhoni struck a six off the first ball of the 48th over but was then superbly run out by Martin Guptill to realistically end India's slim chances.

Last man Yuzvendra Chahal edging behind was greeted with shock by an India heavy crowd, as New Zealand gathered into a huddle.

For New Zealand pacemen Matt Henry took 3, while Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner grabbed 2 wickets each.

The black caps will play hosts England or holders Australia in Sunday's title match at Lord's after pulling off a remarkable triumph against two-time champions India.
